Level of difficulty: Mostly level, dirt, gravel or boardwalk trail
(sections are mucky in rainy season). Clues easy to moderate.
Setting: McLane Creek Nature Trail is a gorgeous riparian setting
with ponds, reeds, beaver mounds, old growth trees and wildlife of
all types. Look for beavers, ducks, newts, bull frogs, birdsred
wing blackbirds, cedar waxwings, etc.
Highlights: Look for the beavers and signs of all of their
activities.
Facilities: Primitive restroom located near the parking lot. Bring a
picnic lunch.
Restrictions: Leash and scoop laws in effect for pets. No bicycles.
Forget your elephants and wallabys, too. They might scare the
beavers.
Length of trek: 1.1 mile loop for both boxes
Directions: Take I-5 to Exit #104 Hwy 101, head West. Take the Mud
Bay Rd exit and head South (Left) on Delphi Road. Travel 6 miles.
Look for the sign for McLane Creek Nature Trail on the right. Park
in the lower parking lot near the info kiosk. This is the starting
point for your trek.
